Canberra winemakers continue to impress with a range of shirazes, including the highly competitive sub-$20-a-bottle market. Shaw Vineyard Estate's Winemaker's Selection 2008 Shiraz at just $16 a bottle is well structured with solid spice, black fruits, a hint of mint and, above all, an easygoing nature.

Notes: Strong Colour; a full-bodied wine, with an expressive blackcurrant and plum bouquet, then a strongly structured palate with deep black fruit flavours and powerful, although ripe, tannins.

Score: 91 Points
Notes: Bright, deep crimson; despite the elevated alcohol, it's hard to find fault with this voluptuous expression of cabernet, bursting with cassis, plum and blackcurrant fruit and just enough tannins to tidy up the finish. Ready to go.
3 Gold & 4 Silver from AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge
We were thrilled to receive the news this week that we achieved a 100% medal success rate in the recent Vienna International Wine Challenge.
This wine show is the largest official recognised wine competition in the world! 9632 wines out of 36 nations over five continents were tasted and valuated anonymously.

Trophy Win - NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show 2011
We have just received the exciting news that our 2009 Premium Merlot won the Trophy for the Best Merlot of the Show in the recent NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show.
This wine is shaping up to become the best Merlot we have ever made, having so far won the following awards:

• Gold Medal - NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show 2011
• Gold Medal - Cairns Show Wine Awards 2011
• Bronze Medal – Royal Queensland Wine Show 2011
• Bronze Medal - NSW Boutique Wine Awards 2011
Although not yet released at cellar door this wine will be available for tasting during the Murrumbateman Moving Feast on the October Long Weekend.
Gold Medal - New Zealand International Wine Show 2011
Our Shaw Vineyard Estate Premium 2009 Shiraz has this week been named on the Champions List at the New Zealand International Wine Show having been awarded a Gold Medal alongside a Silver and Bronze for our Premium 2009 Cabernet Shiraz and Premium 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon respectively.
The means that our 2009 Shiraz is now in the running for the Trophy which will be announced the first week in September - crossing fingers!
Our Shaw Vineyard Estate Premium 2009 Merlot also won Gold in Cairns this month, highlighting the greatness of the 2009 reds from this rapidly emerging region.
